Facebook Home reached 1 million downloads

Facebook Home reached 1 million downloads

The giant has spent twice the time to go from 500 00 to 1 Million just to get the first 500 00 downloads.

Does Facebook Home know some problems of adoption? A month after its publication, he finally reached the symbolic figure of one million downloads, reports our colleague CNET United States, citing the director of mobility as a source.

New target: 5 million. This could take time. It took ten days to reach Facebook Home 500,000 downloads and more than 20 days to double that number. This slowdown and average performance reflects the reception rather critical of Facebook Home.

Bugs and up-to-date

Many quite negative tests have been published since the release of the software, and Facebook Home does not add up to five of the 16 000 and some votes on the Google Play Store more than two stars. Many bugs have especially put off users. Facebook has released an update to day since, but this does not seem enough.

Especially since this one million downloads, it has no idea how many have deleted the application thereafter. Facebook should have an idea - he knows the rate of removal some time after the download, but not beyond.

Facebook ready to pay $ 1 billion for Waze GPS Application

Facebook ready to pay $ 1 billion for Waze GPS Application

The online social network Facebook is in talks to acquire Israeli Waze GPS mobile application for an award of up to one billion dollars, said Thursday the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter. These sources describe the serious discussions, but warn that they can still fail.

Founded in 2008 in Israel, Waze is a mobile application that is funded by advertising and associated mapping a social aspect: it advises road routes taking into account information on accidents, road works or traffic jams provided by almost 50 million users. Such a purchase would allow Facebook to improve its offering in the mobile, where he tries to strengthen and put a foot on the market for online mapping.

This would be one of the biggest acquisitions of the group since the last year of application Instagram, for a price originally announced $ 1 billion but eventually reduced to 747 million, Facebook had paid partly with its own shares whose prices had meanwhile fallen.

Here Is The World's Oldest Facebook User

Monday, February 07, 2011

A 103-year-old grandmother is believed to be the world's oldest Facebook user. Lillian Lowe, from Tenby in Pembrokeshire, regularly keeps her online friends updated about her life using her iPad, and being signed up to the social network also enables her to keep track of what her seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren are up to.

Mrs Lowe, who is just two months away from her 104th birthday, took the oldest Facebook user title following the death of 104-year-old Ivy Bean in July. Despite some of the Facebook goings on that would shock many her age, Lillian says she isn't fazed by any of her grandchildren's "antics".
She said: "I have seen a few things over the years, so nothing really shocks me these days anyway."

Mrs Lowe, who logs on several times a week, uses her 47-year-old grandson Steve's iPad but is very keen to get her own. The retired hotelier and businesswoman says it's "just lovely" to be able to see all the latest photographs and messages from her large family. She said: "I can recommend it for any grandparents to keep in touch with their family without ringing all the time."

While saying her online habit is "exciting" the cyber centenarian also admitted that it can be a "dreadful waste of time".

She said: "I'm sure there are lots of other things I should be doing rather than playing on a computer."

Skype Video Chat in Facebook Instant Messaging

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Recently Skype and Facebook announced a large integration, however that integration appeared to be limited to the Skype desktop application.

Back in September it was reported that “Facebook users will be able to video chat with each other.” While this is theoretically possible via Skype already, it wouldn’t be surprising if those calls could take place directly from within Facebook.

AllFacebook is reporting that a Facebook app developer has discovered the existence of code hinting at Skype integration.

Apparently, Facebook is bucket testing this feature, which will be based on the Skype SDK.

Tal Alter, the developer who was the first to notice this, wrote in his blog, “The object, which is simply called VideoChat, appears to have everything needed to introduce video chatting functionality.” It is expected that once launched, Skype users will be able to receive and initiate video calls directly from Facebook.

After all, Facebook’s new messaging system is an attempt to make communication more seamless and synchronized across multiple platforms. It may very well be that video chat will be added to the mix or that Facebook is at least considering a Skype integration.

Facebook Paid Farm Bureau $8.5 Million For Fb.com

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

According to Reuters, Facebook paid American Farm Bureau Federation a staggering $8.5 million to acquire FB.com last year. This amount is 42.5 times more than the amount company paid for Facebook.com witch was the last high-profile domain purchase. Fb.com was bought for sole purpose of Facebook’s new messaging platform which CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced back in november last year.

Facebook Fb.com Farm Bureau

At first FB.com was intended to use only for internal employees for testing purpose, but for now on typing FB.com will redirect you to Facebook.com

The last high-profile domain purchase by Facebook was for Facebook.com, all the way back when it was known as TheFacebook. The company paid $200,000 in August 2005 to acquire the domain.

Farm Bureau, which uses fb.org as its primary domain revealed that the organization earned $8.5 million on the sale of  “a couple of domain names”. This also suggests that the transaction included more then one web address besides FB.com.

While the Facebook.com purchase was expensive for the company back then, it’s an investment that has clearly paid off. The company is obviously hoping that fb.com will also pay off.

Facebook's new messaging system mashes up SMS, e-mail, IM

Monday, November 15, 2010

Facebook today launched a new messaging system over the next few months that "isn't just e-mail," but integrates four common ways users communicate: email, Facebook messages and chat, SMS, and archives it all in a single thread.

The company today is introducing a three-pronged system that strives to not necessarily change the way we communicate but to make it more efficient, more personal and definitely simpler. And, of course, Facebook wants to make it seamless across the platforms and devices we’re already using.

The new system puts a user's identity above the communication protocol. Facebook Engineer Joel Seligstein today said, "You decide how you want to talk to your friends...They will receive your message through whatever medium or device is convenient for them, and you can both have a conversation in real time. You shouldn't have to remember who prefers IM over email or worry about which technology to use. Simply choose their name and type a message."

The company said the rollout to users will be a slow one - over the next couple of months - and initially will be spread via invitations. The idea is to let people get used to it and offer some feedback to Facebook about it.

It currently handles the four different methods of communication, but as it rolls out, it will also become a sharing and collaboration platform. Microsoft announced today that it is integrating the Office Web Apps experience into Facebook's new messaging system. Users will be able to share Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents in Facebook messages, and download them to your desktop.

But the idea that some users, including the younger users who already prefer SMS and Facebook over traditional email systems, will shift the winds for future generations is something that makes me hopeful that the clunky e-mail systems of today will someday be history.
